Description Summary

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the safety and health of plant employees, as well as sustainability monitoring and supervision of the janitorial department.  This position will be responsible for creating, implementing and overseeing programs to encourage a ‘Safety First’ work environment for all US Stone employees.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  plans/executes safety training; daily safety walkthroughs; conduct safety audits; manages observation program and on the floor hazard evaluations/recommendations with the assistance of a safety committee they will oversee; management of first aid room and control of inventory within and any other additional duties assigned by the plant management team.

 

Job Summary

  • Plan, implement and enforce OSHA policies and programs throughout the production plant 

  • Monitor adherence to all OSHA policies and company rules and regulations

  • Review existing policies and procedures for updates, additions, etc., (i.e. update and facilitate use of the Employee Safety Manual)

  • Conduct regularly scheduled health, safety and accident prevention training

  • Implement and oversee the development of a safety committee designed to assist in promoting a ‘Safety First’ work environment

  • In conjunction with HR, develop and implement a safety checklist for new hire onboarding

  • Works with HR to investigate accidents and incidents to determine cause, then take preventative measures to eliminate further incidents.  Assist with proper documentation and recordkeeping about these events and be prepared to report your findings to all affected, i.e. plant management team

  • Conducts daily safety walkthroughs to ensure employees are complying as well as identify and address any potential safety concerns

  • Inspect equipment for unsafe workplace conditions, evaluate daily inspection reports and take action as required

  • Observe workplace repairs, installations and any other work that could be considered unsafe

  • Administer general first aid as necessary.  Maintain inventory and organization of first aid room

  • Gather, record and report data necessary to maintain sustainability certification.

  • Accomplishes janitorial objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring appraising job contributions, recommending compensation actions; and adhering to policies and procedures.

  • Must adhere to all health and safety practice and procedures.

  • Must work to be an excellent teammate exhibiting a willingness to help/train co-workers as needed. 

  • Must work with pace and efficiency without sacrificing quality.

  • Carries out any additional duties assigned by the plant management team.

 

Minimum requirements

  • Experience in the area of health and safety in a plant environment with knowledge of OSHA regulations.  MSHA knowledge preferred but not required.

  • OSHA-10 certificate preferred but not required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, including public speaking and presentation

  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred but not required

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Must work well within a team environment. Must be reliable and self-motivated
